The Council on American-Islamic Relations
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Chicago is the Illinois chapter of the largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States. It is a non-profit working to protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims and enhance understanding of Islam. CAIR-Chicago regularly receives cases ranging from employment discrimination and citizenship delay to prison abuse and hate crimes; it mobilizes on behalf of immigrants’ rights and runs voter registration drives.
Supporting the Muslim community as it fights to empower itself from the margin to the mainstream has emerged as one of the most pressing issues facing CAIR-Chicago. CAIR-Chicago is calling on elected officials to promote justice and mutual understanding.
As civil rights complaints by Muslim Americans continue to increase at alarming rates every year, CAIR-Chicago continually works to ensure that Muslim Americans take full part in the promises of America’s founding principles.
