About the YEO Network Program

You’re young, elected, progressive, and in the process of finding and refining your political voice…
The Young Elected Officials Network understands the unique needs of progressive young electeds, and its mission is to unite and support leaders under the age of 35 who share a passion for building communities that reflect the values of freedom, fairness, and opportunity.
Just as the word “progressive” evokes an image of moving forward, the YEO Network aims to help propel young electeds successfully along their path to becoming effective public servants. By exchanging ideas, networking with like-minded elected officials, developing leadership skills, and connecting with policy development organizations and think tanks, members are empowered to transform their political vision into progressive action.
The YEO Network is working to…
Build a Nationwide Network
One of the biggest challenges for YEOs in office is developing appropriate connections to help them become effective leaders. By connecting with their peers and with progressive policy organizations, members of the YEO Network expand their range of innovative solutions and become more confident putting forth their ideas. Networking opportunities are vast within the Network, including attendance at conferences and through communications outlets such as the web site, newsletter, and online forums.
Provide Policy Support and Resources
YEOs are agents of change, but they do not have easy access to the information they need to develop effective policies that reflect their progressive values. The YEO Network works to leverage the tremendous investments made in progressive non-profit policy organizations by linking YEOs to these organizations’ resources, research, model policies, and technical assistance. The collaboration with other progressive organizations also allows YEOs to build relationships and become better integrated into the larger progressive public policy network, building crucial connections for the 50 percent of them that will continue in elected office.
Provide Skills-Building Training and Support
YEOs share a significant need for continued training on a wide range of professional and personal issues. The Network continuously develops training modules included in conferences, summits, and teleconferences. These workshops help YEOs develop their skills in messaging, media, communications, coalition building, artful debate and more.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Young Elected Officials (YEO) Network is to unite and support progressive elected leaders who share a passion for building communities that reflect values of freedom, fairness and opportunity.
The YEO Network supports elected leaders ages 35 and under, as they define issues, develop solutions, and respond to the needs of their communities. By exchanging ideas, developing leadership skills and connecting with policy development organizations, YEO Network members will be empowered to transform their political vision into progressive action.
Through these means, the YEO Network will connect the progressive agenda at community levels across the country, ultimately producing an enduring pipeline of well-prepared national and world class leaders.
